About Us

L’Atelier is derived from the French word meaning the studio or workshop. It means a place for children to explore, create, dream, play and build. It also alludes to the schools of Reggio Emilia in Italy and the inspiration we draw from the “Reggio Approach.” In a Reggio environment, the studio is central to the children’s experience. Here they are given the opportunity to develop many skills that then enable them to explore and represent their ideas and interests in a variety of mediums.

L’Atelier is derived from the French word meaning the studio or workshop. It means a place for children to explore, create, dream, play, and build. It also alludes to the school of Reggio Emilia in Italy and the inspiration we draw from the "Reggio Approach". With Reggio's pedagogical principles in mind, we also know the importance of contextualised applications to adopt the principles to our unique Australian stories. Those are fascinating tales about our cultural diversity, natural and social ecology, and rich indigenous dreaming. Through our localised lens, our children's own ecological identities are fostered; children's learning and play can have meaningful connections with their everyday places, encounters and relationships so their adventures to the faraway worlds can have a solid start from where they are.

Our programs are designed, implemented and evaluated by our highly qualified early childhood teachers and educators, who adopt a Reggio Emilia approach to teaching and learning, which encourages multi-model inquiries to fuse language, social-emotional, cultural studies, mathematics, science, information technology and sustainability through authentic projects. Through integrated methods, children are empowered to become the authors of their own stories and equipped with skills to express their unique stories about their world through their 100 languages.

From materials, tools, play resources and learning experiences, we co-construct various ideas with our children so as to explore the bigger questions about the world around us: who am I as a person? What relationships can I form? How do I relate to this constantly changing world and the people within it? What's my role within my surroundings? How can I show and communicate my internal worlds to the external systems? In everyday contexts, we discover those essential inquiries through cooking, music, games, dramatic expressions, building and construction, sensory play, sand pit activities, gross motor skilling, mark-making, long-term projects, community excursions, and so many more.

Children's daily routine schedule on a green background: drop off child, outdoor and indoor exploration, morning tea, literacy, gross and fine motor skills, art, exploration time, lunch, rest/quiet time, outdoor and nature play, LOTE, values and music, pack away time, afternoon tea, reflection and outdoor play, pick up, with small illustrations of bees, a paper airplane, crayon, paint palette, book, building blocks, a soccer ball, a guitar, a birdhouse, and pencils.

3-5 Year Old Program

Whilst the children are predominately learning together as a group, we have specific periods of the day dedicated to extending the older children. Our highly qualified early childhood teacher develops weekly programs based on the children’s interests and individual learning needs. These programs link closely to the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and Western Australian Kindergarten Guidelines. Throughout the year children aged 3-5 will have many opportunities to develop skills to prepare them for school. Our pre-kindy and kindy program will introduce and build on the fundamental skills to set children up for a successful first year at formalised schooling, as well as supporting and extending children that are already attending kindergarten.

We believe in teaching and learning through a play and inquiry-based curriculum. Children are constantly learning as they play and explore the environment and resources around them. Throughout the year your child will be exposed to several vital early learning topics and skills through hands-on, age appropriate and engaging learning experiences. Our environments are thoughtfully set up to reflect the current program and interests of the children.
